Erin's website is an exercise in utilizing and expanding an existing identity. She came to me with assets from Neo Genesis and asked me to help her create a website around it - on a budget. The advantage of working with small businesses, as a small business, is flexibility. I needed to get her set up with a website within her budget, but also one that she wouldn't need me to maintain for her.

 

To keep costs low and keep her involved in the website creation process, Erin provided her own website copy to fill the layout of suggested sections that I provided. Using the copy, her existing brand materials, and website references I asked her for, I was able to jump right into creating the website. We used WIX for its flexibility, wide variety of functionalities, and user-friendly back-end interface, so she'd be able to navigate without me in the future, if needed.

 

Design-wise, I shifted the color direction from dark-on-light to light-on-dark. A navy background gives the impression of quiet authority and makes her accent colors pop. Based on her brief, she needed something professional but still approachable. Rounded buttons and boxes in her bright accent colors add a bit of energy to the site. I also included some little hand-drawn assets to match the hearts included in her existing look, further adding a human, personable feel. The resulting site looks modern and legitimate without looking too stuffy, and has a friendly quality that reflects the kind of work she does.
