Shir Kadosh
California Temple
Shir Kadosh is a project done in collaboration with D. Jolie Creative. They came to us with a logo and asked us to modernize their look. I supplied them with a mixed-font logo to represent a mix of tradition and modernity, as well as a color palette consisting of a blue base with yellow and teal accents for a welcoming and young feel. We then implemented their new brand into their website - D. Jolie Creative handled copy, while I implemented their new brand look.

The Details
When I began the Shir Kadosh project, all they had to show for their brand was an outdated, stiff logo and ineffective old ads. They were looking for a revamp - not a rebrand - that would attract younger members to their Synagogue.
The first order of business was their logo. While I kept the six-pointed star and music notes, the logotype was completely changed. Instead of a rounded, almost techy sans-serif, I presented them with a two-font solution. “Shir” is in a modern, clean sans-serif, while “Kadosh” is in a gender-neutral script with the point of the K fitting into the R of “Shir.” This combo provided a blend of tradition and modernity: straying from their old designs, but not so far that the brand became unrecognizable. Lastly, I designed a full logo suite, rather than just redesigning their original logo, for versatility.
The rest of their brand fell into place easily: using their original blues, I finished the palette with a joyful yellow and fresh, light teal. Their original palette of darker blues and white was too somber, but these new additions livened it up while keeping the original essence of the brand.
As for the website design, the identity was implemented in a way that's modern and clean, but also welcoming. Aspirational photos and images of smiling guests at prior events greet you on every page, surrounded by a joyful but grounded palette. Clear sections, large buttons, and bold typography make it easy to work through for older and new members alike. For functionality, donations, memberships, event calendar, and a newsletter sign-up were all implemented within WIX, keeping all of Shir Kadosh's information in one place.
I am no longer maintaining the Website; the project has concluded and it's been handed off to the client's team! (The current state of the website may not reflect the original work done by Roana Art and Design.)
